Drawing and Scanning a picture

If you have a flat-bed scanner, then you can create great, personal coloring pages by scanning in images that you and your children have drawn.  Here's a simple example...

1. Sketch with a pencil

guineapig1_smFor the first step it is always best to draw lightly with a pencil.  Any mistakes can then be fixed with an eraser.

Use an HB pencil, and a good quality eraser (Faber-Castell or similar).

Our example shows a very simple guinea-pig character.

2. Draw over with a black marker

guineapig2_smOnce you are happy with your pencil sketch, draw over the outlines with a black marker.  The thickness of pen used will depend on the style you want.  Here a medium-tip artists pen was used.

Give the ink a moment to dry and then erase any remaining pencil marks.

3. Scan the image

Put your picture on the scanner and scan it in, saving as a jpeg file.  To make it easy for the Parent Tools to find it save the file into My Pictures\Kea Coloring\import\.
